Muriel Fisher Doll Collection

We are proud to feature a collection of handcrafted dolls made in the likeness of notes women in  history such as Georgia O’Keefe, Toni Morrison and Frida Kahlo. Local artist Muriel Fisher created these dolls representing extraordinary women using her hair, old clothing, and found objects. Muriel was a long-admired artist in San Diego. She was a member of "Many Hands", an elder in the folk art community and a mentor in the lesbian community. She was a collector extraordinaire, turning her "piles of stuff" into beautiful dolls, mobiles and other objets d'art. We're honored that she donated her women's history doll collection to the WHMEC.
